Ben is a dual specialist in diagnostic radiology and nuclear medicine. In addition Ben is sub-specialty trained in PET scanning and MRI with a musculoskeletal focus, making him one of the most highly trained medical imaging professionals in Australia. Ben studied medicine at the University of Queensland and trained at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, Wesley Hospital and Subiaco MRI Centre.
Ben is widely published in peer-reviewed journals including Radiology, Clinical Radiology, British Journal of Radiology, European Journal of Cancer, European Journal of Radiology, Journal of Computer Assisted Tomography and Australasian Radiology. In addition, as the Chief Investigator in Queensland for the Australian PET Data Collection Project, Ben is the co-author of multiple multi-centre trial papers pending publication, including papers on PET demographics, melanoma and colo-rectal cancer. A number of these PET Data papers were presented in 2007 including at the prestigious American Society of Clinical Oncology and Society of Nuclear Medicine annual meetings.
Ben regularly presents to a wide range of health professionals on varying topics. Audiences for Ben include Radiologists, Surgeons, Gastroenterologists, Emergency Medicine Physicians, General Practitioners, Radiology Registrars and Physiotherapists.
For 17 years Ben has also been involved with sports medicine both clinically and as a Radiologist. He is the current honorary match-day Radiologist for the Queensland Reds, Wallabies, Super 14 and all international rugby sides playing in Brisbane.
Ben is 39, married to Sue (who will be practising as a Physiotherapist on-site at X Radiology) and has 4 children from ages 1 to 6.
